Word-of-mouth advertising means the world to a virtual assistant. Without it, you are subject to the process of gaining the trust of your new client. This isn't to say that you don't still need to gain the trust of a client recommended to you, it is just much easier to ease into a relationship when you have been recommended.
I have found that selling my virtual assistance services over the years has been quite easy when the prospective client has spoken to a mutual friend or client. Raving fans can really help you build your business, it is true.
Another lasting impression you can make is to always be willing to give more than you receive. For example, I have shared suggestions and ideas with potential clients over the years - yes I said potential - that have in turn referred me to others that have become clients. Never forget that kindness goes a long way in this business, or any business for that matter.
