Mastering the To Do List Process

If you are like me, each year when school begins, I tell my kids to pay attention in class, do your homework and study, study, study. Well, how prepared are we for our daily work?

Enter the dreaded To Do List (scary music playing here). Is yours out-of-control? The reason I bring up this topic is to share some tips that can help ease the daily stress of preparing a To Do List. These tips work well for me, and some of my clients;

  1. Begin with a colored sheet of paper (better yet a whole pad of colored paper), the color will stand out on your desk and not become lost amongst all the white sheets of paper.

  2. At the end of each day, make your list for the following day. This allows for a restful evening knowing that your tasks do not need to swim in your head, they are on the list!

  3. After you write down your list, you may wish to re-write it in the order of importance, or simply number it by the level of priority of each task.

  4. Use two different colored pens or pencils. Use one color to write the tasks and the other color to cross them off, or put a check mark next to the completed tasks.

  5. My favorite tip - delegate whenever possible! Give your favorite Virtual Assistant a call! Or email her. Focus on your core competency and relinquish tasks that drag you down.

I hope you find these tips helpful in mastering your To Do List creation, as far as completing the tasks, stay positive, focused and realistic when it comes to how much you can, or want to handle.
